History

The Child Development Center started as a dream for First Baptist Associate Pastor of Education, Moray Loring. In 1968, she, along with other church members, started preparing for the preschool to open its doors after the new year. In 1969, the Child Development Center welcomed its first students to the preschool.

CDC was created in response to a need for quality early care and education as women entered the workforce.  Further, its goal was to provide top-notch educational experiences and worked to become accessible to all children regardless of religion, ethnic background, gender or sexual identity.  Additionally, CDC feels strongly that all children have a right to early childhood education regardless of socio-economic status.  As such, we have a rich history of providing scholarships to those who qualify to assist in tuition coverage.  CDC's service mission is in its 50th year of existence and has helped educate thousands of children in Columbia and surrounding areas through hands-on learning and engaging activities.
